ANTIQUE 19thc GOTHIC WALNUT WOOD CARVED GREEN MAN PEDIMENT WITH PART GILT DECOR

Description

Superb 19thc gothic wood carved  - I believe the wood is a walnut - pediment of the Green Man.
Excellent attention to detail on this fine carving.  To the centre of the pediment is a Green Man relief carved with flowing hair and leaves for a beard/moustache.   Wonderful facial expression with the eyes cast to the right.  On his head is a carved shell-like crown.   To either end are scrolled arms although to one side the scrolled arm has lost its end section as images show.  Unusually, the carving has been gilded to one side of head.
Measures some 9" height x 18" max length.
Condition:  Apart from the missing section as described above, this pediment carving is in excellent age consistent condition.
