    1800'S NATIVE AMERICAN SCALPING KNIFE
    Notes:
Here we have an absolutely beautiful Native American scalping knife and sheath. This knife dates back to the late 19th century and is adorned with a gorgeous ivory handle and horse head pommel. However, one of the horses ears was broken off, which is visible in the pictures. While geometric shapes on native american artifacts is quite common, no two knives are the same and are completely unique. Based on the mountains depicted on both the handle and sheath, this knife most likely belonged to either the Sioux or Dakota tribes. The amount of detail on this piece indicates that this was most likely a family heirloom passed down from Father to Son or the knife of an important tribal elder. Every bit of the knife is constructed for a purpose and its details reflect the native american's intimacy with nature and respect for the environment. Constructing a knife is a pivitol point in a young man's life, as they are used in many differeny facets of daily life; from cooking to hunting and from self defense to war. This, like any other Native American artifact, tells a story and most likely symbolizes many things. Please contact us with any questions or concerns you may have and don't miss your chance to own this unique piece of Native American history! Thank you!
