Description
Frequently mistaken for celluloid, this eye-catching necklace is made of galalith, a must-have for serious collectors of vintage plastics. Galalith was utilized in many of the same ways Bakelite was, here resin washed in a lovely cherry red and cut back to reveal the white underneath. We have a nice combination of overdyed and plain white beads, in a variety of shapes including round, oval and tube-shaped. For a smaller neck, the necklace measures about 14 1/2" including hardware. It appears to be restrung, on white string with a newer looking spring ring clasp.Condition is excellent with no major issues to note. The white beads show a little soiling from handling over the years, which is not super noticeable. Also, wherever a red bead touches a white bead, you can see spots where a little bit of the red dye has transferred to the white bead. The stringing is secure and the spring ring clasp functions perfectly.
